About Elsom Motorsport

1997

Rob saw “Top Gear” presenter Tiff Needell test a top fuel dragster – this lead Rob to visit Santa Pod for his first Summer Nationals – he was instantly hooked!

1998

Rob visited the Autosport Show and was allowed to sit in a dragster – his interest was taken to the next level!

2000-2003

This was the first year that Rob Elsom entered in competition. At first he looked toward running in Pro ET (bracket class) and in 2001 after a year of finding his way in the sport decided to have a go at running a full national championship. However later in the year Rob was unable to complete every meeting – but still managed to finish 7th from a 32 car field.

Another couple of years saw Rob compete in another class (super gas) as well as still being in the Pro ET ranks running ‘double duty’ and still qualifying top 10 at nearly every meeting attended.

2004-Present

After the birth of their daughter, the hard decision was made to sell the car and the rest of the kit to build a custom 56 pickup in a bid to spend more time with the family and to use it at shows where the family was also involved. During this time Rob crewed on various cars at different levels, but found his time in the Super Modified class really inspiring and before long bought the car that he intend to run in the 2012 championship.

This class trully ticks all the boxes for Elsom Motorsport as it gives all the challenges of a Pro Team with a fraction of the cost.

Family Life

Rob, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and his wife, Sharon, were married in may 2005. Daughter Chloe and son Cody are both his biggest fans. Sharon has been a major part in Rob’s racing life and still to this day spends time organising the team.

Profession

Rob is a time served self employed electrician that works within the shopfitting industry, running and overseeing various projects over the years such as Harrods airside stores and World Duty Free shopping within Heathrow and various other UK airports.
